A chemical peel is usually used to improve the texture of the skin and its appearance. In this treatment, the damaged and dull layers of the skin are peeled off by a chemical solution which is applied to the skin. This procedure helps to reveal a fresh, healthy skin which looks less wrinkled and smoother than the old one.
The chemical peel helps to rejuvenate and exfoliate the skin much faster than it happens naturally especially with age when the skin cell replenishment process and the natural exfoliation slows down.
Chemical peels can be different by their intensity and depth, from light peels to deeper peels which affect the skin layers more intensively and trigger substantial regeneration of skin.
For example, in the skin which prone to acne, sebaceous glands work more intensively, and it keeps the skin cells sticky and less able to rejuvenate and exfoliate. It leads to the situation that the outermost skin layer blocks pores with dead cells and oil and slows down the replenishing process. Chemical peels help the skin to exfoliate normally and even the skin which prone to acne becomes smoother and more even-toned.
A chemical peel can effectively help to improve:
Which other areas of the body can be treated with a chemical peel?
Chemical peel also may be applied to other areas of the body except for the face. For example, it could be a good solution for such problem areas as the arms, back of the hands, chest, legs, back and feet. At D&K Medical Spa, our specialists usually use chemical peels in conjunction with other procedures to achieve better results in a treatment of a variety of skin conditions.
As was already noted above chemical peels can be different by their intensity and depth. Light peels work only on the superficial layers of the skin and don’t cause the redness or unpleasant senses during the procedure. At the same time, they effectively smooth away dull-looking surface cells and clear up the congested pores of the skin.
A chemical peel may be left on the skin for a few minutes or up to 60 minutes depending on the type and intensity of treatment. Also, there may be a different amount of layers of the peel applied to the skin. Light chemical peels cause the minimal discomfort and the client feels only a slight stinging when the peel is applied. Stronger peels may cause more intense sensation such as slight stinging, warm, burning sensation or tingling which means that solution is working. The peel will be neutralized by the licensed aesthetician at the end of the procedure.
What to expect after the treatment?
After the light peels, the skin may appear a little bit reddened, shiny and tight. After the deeper peels, clients may experience redness, slight swelling and a sensation of tightness during a few days. However, each individual may have a different reaction to the particular peel.
After the procedure, the client is recommended to cleanse and moisturize the skin as well as using sunscreen daily according to the aesthetician’s advice. Also, it is important to avoid sun exposure and limit exaggerated facial expressions for a few days, because the surface of the skin is very tight that time. It is not recommended to peel off loose skin because it may cause the scarring of the skin.
At D&K Medical Spa, we usually recommend from 4 to 6 light to medium peels, which could be done approximately every 3 -4 weeks. As for deep peels, they are not intended to be repeated regularly.
