Photo-Rejuvenation (IPL) or Photo-Facial

Photo-Rejuvenation is a non-invasive treatment presented with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology. This treatment is helpful with such skin conditions as pigmentation, sun damaged skin, broken capillaries, redness, rosacea as well as with fine lines and wrinkles. Intense pulse light (IPL) is safe and effective anti-aging treatment, which, in addition, tightens the skin and reduce pore size. Because this procedure doesn’t damage the surface of the skin, the client doesn’t need any recovery time and may return to her/his regular activities after the treatment. Intense pulse light (IPL) may be used not only for treating the face but also for the neck, hands and chest. At the D&K Medical Spa our medical aesthetician will discuss with you this light-based therapy along with other anti-aging procedures to customized treatments accordingly to your needs and skin condition. Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

At D&K Medical Spa, during Photo-Rejuvenation Treatment we use exceptional Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) which uses to deliver special controlled light directly to the targeting areas of the skin such as age spots, blemishes, and pigmentation. During the procedure, the light is absorbed by the pigmented areas of the skin and then converts to heat, which ruins only the targeted cells without affecting the surrounding skin. After the skin pigment absorbed the light, the natural process of breaking it down and eliminating it begins leading to opening up rejuvenated skin which has more even tone and clearer texture. Pigmented areas such as age spots become much lighter even after one treatment, but after few more treatments, they usually disappear.

This treatment is also used for heating up the dermis and stimulating collagen generation, improving skin firmness, texture, pore size and fine lines. A Photo-Rejuvenation Treatment can also be useful for treating such areas as hands, chest, and back.

What is intense pulsed light (IPL)?

During the Photo-Rejuvenation procedure, intense beam of broad-spectrum light is used. This light targets the lower layer of the skin called dermis. The treatment helps to remove damaged and photoaged skin while stimulating the growth of collagen.

Who is suitable for treatment?

The clients who have fairer skin tones will achieve faster results than the clients with darker skin tones. They will need additional procedures and should be treated with lower fluency levels. If the clients had exposure to sunlight or used solarium will need to wait until their colour has completely faded before the procedure.

How many procedures are needed and how long do they take?

For the best results, our aestheticians usually recommend from four to eight procedures, but if the client has deep pigmentation and skin damage, she/he may require few more treatments and then maintenance every 3 months.

Clients may see first improvements right after the first procedure. The best results will be achieved if the client uses the sunscreen and avoids the sun exposure. The next procedure may be scheduled after four weeks from the first one when healing from the previous session is complete. Usually, treatment takes about 20 minutes, but time can depend on the treated area.

Does the Photo-Rejuvenation treatment have any side effects?

After the procedure, the treated area will experience redness, a mild burning sensation and possible slight swelling which are normal. Also, some clients may have additional side effects such as superficial crusting (which is positive because it is the natural way of eliminating pigmentation). In some cases, the treatment may activate cold sores, cause blistering or undesirable pigmentation changes (depends on skin type or sun exposure).

What happens after treatment?

After treatment, pigmented areas will darken and fall off within seven to twenty-eight days (it depends on the treated area), or gradually fade. Broken Capillaries and Rosacea usually lighten and eventually fade. Fine lines and wrinkles become a softer and smoother, creating a more youthful appearance.

Pre-Treatment

One month before the treatment it is essential to avoid any sun exposure including a solarium and use sunscreen (SPF30+) every day.

Post Treatment

After the treatment, the client may apply a soothing gel product to relieve discomfort. Also, it is important to use only gentle skin care products which don’t contain perfume, alcohol or any exfoliants for three to five days after treatment. Moisturizer may be applied after washing the treated area.

The treated area should be out of the sun (protected by clothing) and protected by SPF30+ sunscreen at all times. In addition, the client should avoid activities which make her/him perspire for at least 24 hours and should not wax the area for at least three days.
